Astral
Projection:
“Do what thou wilt
shall be the whole of the Law.”
I think the method is as misunderstood as it is, for the
simple reason, that it is so easy, and most people would like it to be
something supernatural. In fact, it is no more than conscious dreaming, the
idea is that one is illuminating the landscape of Yesod with the light from the
Ruach shining down through Tiphareth. Basically, a magician is by an act of
will, manifesting visions derived from the unconscious, which is invariably
linked to the collective unconscious. This is the world of archetypes, that
foster development, not only on an individual level, but on an universal level.
The latter development is perceived as religious symbols and ideas, that foster
the collective evolution of mankind.
The question is how does it work, and is it truly an out of
body experience? On the last question, no way! A person cannot leave his or her
body, in the strict sense. We are however linked to the rest of humanity via the
ether (the unconscious), therefore people who claim to have found themselves
outside of themselves, are more than likely bullshit artists trying to make a
buck. However, what I can perceive subconsciously holds a striking resemblance
to what every other person in the world associates to the vision in question.
Perhaps the aesthetics of the visions change from person to person, however, a
priestess dressed in purple within a specific context holds the same significance for me as it does for
every other person in the whole world.
The first task of a magician is to awaken his astral vision,
this is actually a very simple process and all that is needed is time and
imagination. The more one does the exercises, the stronger his second sight
becomes, until it is automatic. Once this level has been attained, he is ready
for step two. The exercises I’m referring to are the pentagram rituals and the
middle pillar. The ceremonies are designed to make the practicing magician
aware of his body of light, and things like the N.O.X. signs, or the qabalistic
cross should be done with the eyes closed. While performing these rituals, the
magician should imagine his body as it is, his vision must become so acute,
that if he lifts up his arms or raises his hands to in front of his face, he should
see them as golden light and in great detail. This vision should at first be
practiced, he must imagine that he can see himself in this way with his eyes
closed. Once this is achieved and the sight has become automatic, meaning that he really
can see his body of light, he is ready for the next step.
The next exercise is fun and very easy and serves a very
practical function. The best thing about this exercise is that it is done with
open eyes. While performing Resh, stand in the sign of Hoor-Paar Kraat and from
there imagine your body of light stepping out of you to perform the sign of the
enterer in the invisible world, this is great for people who are too
self-conscious to perform Resh in public. You should now be able to see your
body of light standing in front of you reciting the adoration of the sun. When
the adoration is finished your body of light ends with the sign of the grade
and steps backwards enveloping your physical body in the sign of silence. This
exercise should be so familiar, that a person should be able to perform it
anywhere and under any circumstances.
Next sit in asana, imagine your body of light standing over
you. Then transfer your consciousness to your body of light. This can easily be
achieved by imagining your body of light assuming the sign of the enterer and
you seeing it from your astral double’s perspective. When you are able to do
this, you should perform the pentagram rituals in the ether while seated in
asana. The only difficulty with this part of the practice is that in the
beginning, it will be hard to turn around and you will find yourself at these
intervals of the ritual being thrown back into your physical body. This is perfectly normal and all that is necessary to overcome it is consistent
practice. This practice should be natural enough that these rituals may be
performed anywhere and at any-time. When these exercises are perfectly natural,
you will find that to turn around and look at yourself seated in asana will be
quite easy to do.
Note: All of the exercises listed are easier to do when
performed in a room illuminated by soft candlelight.

love under will.”
