Inflame Thyself with Prayer (Marrying Elementals):

Inflame Thyself with Prayer (Marrying Elementals):

“Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”

“May the soul of Comte de Gabalis be now in the presence of God, for they have just written me that he has died of apoplexy. The Amateurs will not fail to say that this manner of death usually befalls those who deal incautiously with the secrets of the Sages, and that since the Blessed Raymond Lully so decreed in his testament, an avenging angel has never failed promptly to wring the necks of all who have indiscreetly revealed the Philosophic Mysteries.” Comte De Gabalis or Disourses on Secret Sciences, Abbe N. Montfaucon de Villars.

I will take my chances and present you with this closely guarded secret, for mystery is the enemy of truth. In the book quoted above Comte de Gabalis and the author discuss the elementals and the Comte proposes to the author that he must seek out and marry an elemental. Now, I would like to say that I do not believe in the objective validity of these beings, nor in the reality of god as an all-powerful creator with an inferiority complex, such as the one found in the bible. I am saying that whether these are objective truths or subjective, matters little, if the method employed is effective.

This is the formula of Pentagrammaton as being the microcosmic Tetragrammaton, the microcosm is the miniature universe and therefore the elements found within us are also found in the universe outside of us. Herein then we have the elementals, these are the Salamanders, the Undines, the Sylphs and the Gnomes. These elementals correspond to the three letters of the ineffable name as well as the dignitaries of the Tarot. The Gnomes are the Princess of Disks and He final, the Sylphs, the Prince of Swords and Vau, the Undines are represented by the Queen of Cups and He, and the Knight of Wands are the Salamanders and Yod. These then are also represented in the four worlds as Spirit descending into the material world and therefore what I'm presenting is a method of invocation.

This is what Crowley says about these Elementals in his “Book of Thoth”.

“The Knights represent the powers of Yod in the Name, they are the most sublime, original, active part of the Energy of the Element;” “In the Element of Fire, for instance, the Knight refers to the Lightning Flash;” “It is very important as a mental exercise to work out for oneself these correspondences between the Symbol and the Natural Forces which they represent; and it is essential to practical Magical work to have assimilated this knowledge.”

“The Queens represent the letter He of the Name. They receive, ferment, and transmit the original energy of their Knight. Quick to receive that Energy, they are also fitted to endure for the period of their function; but they are not the final product. They represent the second stage in the process of creation whose fourth and last state is material realization.”

“The Princes represent the Forces of the letter Vau in the Name. The Prince is the son of the Queen (the old King's daughter) by the Knight who has won her” “He is the active issue of their union, and its manifestation. He is the intellectual image of their union. His action is consequently more enduring than that of his forebears.”

“The Princesses represent the He' final of the Name. They represent the ultimate issue of the original Energy in its completion, its crystallization, its materialization. They also represent the counter-balancing, the re-absorption of the Energy. They represent the Silence into which all things return. They are thus at the same time permanent and non-existent. An audit of the equation 0=2.” “For instance, no sooner has the Princess made her appearance than the Prince wins her in marriage, and she is set upon the throne of her Mother. She thus awakens the Eld of the original King; who thereupon becomes a young knight, and so renews the cycle.”

From this analysis, it is clear that this method of marrying ourselves to these Elemental beings is High Magick and is a method employed in uniting the Microcosm with the Macrocosm. It is the path to Knowledge and Conversation with our Holy Guardian Angels.

At the start of every Thelemite's magical career he is told to perform Liber Resh vel Helios four times a day, but what is this ritual all about and what makes it so important? In Liber AL, Hadit says. “I am the flame that burns in every heart of man, and in the core of every star. I am Life, and the giver of Life, yet therefore is the knowledge of me the knowledge of death.” Liber Al: II,6. Liber Resh is the means by which a Thelemic magician affirms his sovereignty as an independent being born into this world of contending forces. (Hadit is Spirit and we find him on the Tree of Life in Kether and in Malkuth. Or at least here is where he is highlighted on the tree.) He affirms that he is a Star in the company of stars. Once this new level of consciousness has been attained he is tasked to equilibrate the elements by daily performance of the pentagram ritual.

Eliphas Levi wrote four beautiful prayers to the elementals, these may be incorporated into our magickal routines as a way to marry ourselves to the elementals, as suggested by Comte de Gabalis. I propose including these prayers into one's practice of Liber Resh. This technique will serve to consciously invoke the Spirit into Matter every-day and instead of just being a form of monotonous bhakti yoga without understanding, it becomes a part of the supreme magick ritual, that of invoking our Holy Guardian Angels. Below I have included the Prayer of the Salamanders, written by Eliphas Levi. It corresponds to Yod of Tetragrammaton (Fire) and may be performed along with Resh at Dawn.

“Immortal, Eternal, Ineffable and Uncreated Father of all, borne upon the Chariot of Worlds which ever roll in ceaseless motion. Ruler over the Ethereal Vastness where the throne of Thy Power is raised from the summit of which Thine Eyes behold all and Thy Pure and Holy Ears hear all – help us, thy children, whom Thou hast loved since the birth of the Ages of Time! Thy Majesty, Golden, Vast and Eternal, shineth above the Heaven of Stars. Above them art Thou exalted. O Thou Flashing Fire, there Thou illuminatest all things with Thine Insupportable Glory, whence flow the Ceaseless Streams of Splendor which nourish Thine Infinite Spirit. This Infinite Spirit nourishest all and maketh that inexhaustible Treasure of Generation which ever incompasseth Thee replete with numberless forms wherewith Thou hast filled it from the Beginning. From this Spirit arise those most holy Kings who are around Thy Throne, and who compose Thy Court. O Universal Father, One and Alone! Father alike of Immortals and Mortals. Thou hast especially created Powers similar unto thy Thought Eternal and unto Thy Venerable Essence. Thou hast established them above the Angels who announce Thy Will to the World. Lastly, Thou hast created us as a third Order in our Elemental Empire. There our continual exercise is to praise and to adore Thy Desires; There we ceaselessly burn with Eternal Aspirations unto Thee, O Father! O Mother of Mothers! O Archetype Eternal of Maternity and Love! O Son, the Flower of all Sons! Form of all Forms! Soul , Spirit, Harmony, and Numeral of all things! Amen!

I hope this article was informative or at the very least enjoyable.

“Yes, my Son,” the Comte interrupted, "Marvel at the extent of the philosophical felicity. Instead of women, whose feeble allurements fade in a few days and are succeeded by horrible wrinkles, the Sages possess beauties who never grow old and whom they have the glory of rendering immortal. Imagine the love and gratitude of these invisible mistresses and ardour wherewith they strive to please the charitable Philosopher who applies himself to their immortalization.” Comte de Gabalis or Discourses on Secret Sciences, Abbe N. Montfaucon de Villars.

“Love is the law, love under will.”
